Blending traditional Korean music with contemporary sounds, the band Juris Kuns creates a unique form of music that stands on the border between tradition and modernity. Led by Juri Kim, who plays the haegeum (traditional Korean string instrument), the band uses various traditional Korean instruments combined with modern instrumentation, such as acoustic guitar, bass guitar, and percussion, to produce a truly innovative sound.
"Passage"
The performance entitled “Passage”, which is also the title of Juris Kuns’s first album, illustrates a coexisting universe between the traditional past and the present modern as well as the east and the west. Through their harmonized music on stage, the artists succeed in enhancing the communication and connection of the traditional music and adding a new element to modern music.
“ Juri Kim is presenting a precise language based on music that stands on the border between tradition and modernity. Full of Juri Kim’s trademark sensitive tunes expressing the value of existence with the refreshing thrill of standing on a perilous border.”
- Kyungchae Hyun (Music Critic)
“ Juri Kim’s Haegeum is distinct in her commitment not to limit herself to the common notion of beauty and in her power of liberal expression. With enthusiasm of being true to her nature, her tunes lyrically leap over the mundane sort where the other Haegeum players dwell.”
- Mingap Seojeong (Music Critic)
