A group of Chinese artists, poets and critics based in the greater New York area will come together at Crossing Art Gallery in New York on Saturday January 15, 3 - 6pm to celebrate the New Year and discuss the exhibition currently on view, MoniOolyonhai: Homage to Mongolia. The exhibition, curated by David Rong, features recent paintings by Moni Oolyonghai that depict landscapes of an ethereal world based on the artist’s homeland of Inner Mongolia in China. The paintings evoke a sense of longing for the land of Oolyonghai’s youth paying homage to both the physical and cultural aspects of his native Mongolia.
The featured artist Moni Oolyonhai will be present to introduce his art through an informal talk. The artist talk will be moderated by the Chinese poet and critic Mai Mang. Mai Mang will also read a few of his own recent poems to honor this meeting. The artist talk and poetry reading will be followed by a Q&A session and an open discussion among guests and friends on the most recent trends of contemporary Chinese art and their socio-political implications.
