FOR IMMEDIATE
RELEASE: Gallery d’Arte, 548 West 28th
Street, Suite 338, New York City is pleased to present Soul of
Stone: Simon Doucet. This show will run from June
16th-22nd, 2016 with an opening reception on Thursday of
June 16th from 6 to 9 pm. Simon Doucet has created sculptures
based on an exploration of the double-sided character of nature. He works with
elaborate naturally formed stones which are viewed as reflections of
deconstruction in the natural world: contemplative and balanced. The title
Soul of Stone was inspired by Soul Music that
originated in New York City in the late 1950s. His works have a rhythmical and
energetic style like soul music. Doucet's pieces emerge from these aesthetics,
imbued with features of contemporary environments. With color, scale and a
variety of materials treated together, these artworks show nature’s balance and
harmony. His process achieves the timelessness and universality of the
human condition. With clay, plaster, bronze and aluminum mesh panels, he uses
various tools for the details. Doucet’s process is revealed by the well-worked
surface of the sculpture, leaving one with a sense of the naturalness and
liveliness creation. Feminine elements in his works are just as energetic,
adding a wonderful balance to his work. Simon Doucet was born in France
and started studying sculpture from a young age, at the Atelier Potager Du
Dauphin, in Meudon, near Paris. For several years, he dedicated his time to the
Foundation Jean Arp, helping the curator to welcome visitors. He pursued his
interest in sculpture and worked for some years at the Atelier Terre Et Feu in
Lille, France. Now he is lecturing sculpture at the Art Students League in New
York City since 2009. For More
